Unique Baby Shower Gift Ideas for Mom and Baby
Baby showers are such an exciting time for a new, expecting mom. It is a time to celebrate a new baby boy or baby girl entering her family surrounded by loved ones! It is also a time to show your appreciation by setting mom up with all of the baby shower gifts she will need to be prepared for her new baby.
Right off the bat, we KNOW momma will get a mountain of diapers, wipes, and more baby clothes than a baby could ever wear at her baby shower. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve heard stories of people not even bothering to look at the registry and just gifting a ton of clothing. I always feel so bad when this happens as parents are left with none of the items they need. Because of this, I never recommend gifting clothes unless they are on the registry!
So how about we get a little creative and gift mom not only things baby will need, but things mom will need too? Things that say “I’m here for you through this journey”. The perfect baby shower gift.
Before we get into this post, I will always recommend prioritizing the registry! Always try to pick up a few things from there as those are the items we know mom wants or needs. It’s a safe bet.
The baby registry is a great way to identify moms style and what unique items she gravitates towards. Keep this list of unique baby shower gifts in your creative toolkit! It will help guide you on what creative gifts will fit with certain themes.
Unique Gifts for Baby
Fever and Cold Medicine for Infants
During the first year of life, baby will be getting lots of vaccines (unless you decline, of course)! Some infant Tylenol is a practical gift that will help ease any discomfort baby will feel following these appointments, but its not always a product that’s on moms mind pre-baby.
Baby Name Sign
Find out what theme mom is going with for the nursery and consider a name sign. These can be extremely unique, personal, and thoughtful gifts. Etsy has excellent options for every nursery theme that I have purchased myself. This woodland name sign can be found here.
Custom Pacifier Clips
Pacifier clips are largely popular these days. Many come beaded with babys name designed with your color preferences to add a personal touch! Another thing I love about baby shower gifts like this is that they can easily be handmade which adds a personal touch.
Personalized Night Light
Etsy and Amazon both have options for night lights personalized with babys name that come in many different themes! Pair this with the Hatch baby rest sound machine for the perfect, sleeping baby.
Custom Baby Books
There are books that can be printed with babys name printed as a character in the book. I’ve personally purchased one of these and loved it. This custom baby book is on Amazon, but there are plenty more on Etsy that are perfect for expecting parents.
Personalized Busy Board
These are customizable by name and come in all sorts of colors and design. They are cute, whimsical, and sure to grab babys attention! So many options are available on Etsy.
Dingle Dangle Baby Gift Set
Ok this is the weirdest toy I’ve ever seen, but it keeps baby occupied. There’s really nothing like the Dingle Dangle on the market. It can be used to occupy baby during diaper changes, a toy during playtime, or as a crib mobile. So unique!
Personalized Baby Memoir Box
Getting a wooden memoir box with babys name is priceless. Fill it with cute baby rattles, cozy hats and booties and even some stuffed animals the same way you would set up a gift basket.
Daycare Gift Set
For the baby who will be going to daycare, a gift set for their daycare days is ideal. Include custom name labels for bottles, plastic bottles (daycares don’t allow glass), an insulated bottle bag, and bottle freezer pack to keep bottles cold. Meal prep containers to hold snacks and purees and baby spoons or forks would be helpful too.
Bath Toy Storage
Baby will likely get bath toys, a bath seat, and plenty of towels and robes. But where are we keeping the toys? A bath toy storage basket that suctions to the side of the tub is an excellent idea!
Unique Baby Booties
Gifting a pair of booties for the day baby comes home is the perfect gift to complete babys first outfit. Booties are also an excellent keepsake for a newborn baby.
Personalized Spoons
Not completely necessary, but this is a great gift for parents that have everything else taken care of and you’re torn on what to get. Adorable!
Lovevery Subscription
This company provides play kits filled with toys and development tools for every stage of baby development through their subscription boxes. They have an excellent reputation for stimulating toys and I’d recommend giving them a try!
Gifts for Parents
Uber Eats / Door Dash
A new mom and dad won’t have much time to make meals anymore. Consider getting a food delivery gift card such as Uber Eats! Maybe even a 1 or 2 month subscription to a meal delivery service such as Hello Fresh if your budget permits.
Robe and Slippers
Mom is likely going to be at home trying to recover following the labor and delivery (on top of taking care of a newborn). Slippers and a cozy robe that she can snuggle in with baby is an excellent gift idea.
Photography Session
Booking a photography session is not on the list for most parents these days as everyone relies on their phone cameras. Make babys homecoming extra special by providing a photography session for first-time parents to look back on in the future. It is so important to capture these special moments!
Christmas Ornament
A babys first Christmas ornament is an excellent idea whether it’s near Christmas or not. Baby will be having their first Christmas eventually! Try to get one that matches their home décor aesthetic.
Home Cleaning Service
Most home cleaning services are willing to offer gift cards when asked. Try reaching out to a local maid service to see if they offer gift cards. If not, offer to pay for a cleaning session! Mom and dad will not have much time to keep a tidy house with a newborn!
Handprint and Footprint Keepsakes
Keepsakes are items all parents want, but don’t think to put on gift lists. This keepsake frame is a gift parents are sure to appreciate as they capture their little ones tiny hands and feet at the smallest size they’ll ever be.
Massage
What better way to relax after having a baby than a massage? Mom is REALLY going to appreciate this one. If she has time, that is! Find a local massage parlor and check if they have gift certificates to give mom the perfect gift of much needed relaxation.
Breastfeeding or Formula Gear
Lactation teas and cookies are a unique idea for breastfeeding moms if you don’t want to get too personal. Formula dispensing machines are also a necessary gift for moms who don’t plan on breastfeeding.
Target Gift Card
Of all the local stores I’ve been to, Target is the only one that always has the last minute baby gear I need. A Target gift card will MOST CERTAINLY be used!
Baby Care Workshop
This is always beneficial to ease the stress of the unknown to new parents. It will answer all of their questions while providing guidance and support into their new journey of parenthood.
Diaper Cake
Last but not least, a tiered cake made of diapers in all different sizes! Make each tier a different size and top with stuffed animals or decorative objects.
Making sure mom and dad are prepared to be new parents is important to support. As they all say, “it takes a village”, and the best thing we can do is always be there while helping where we can; especially during postpartum recovery. Whether it be popping over so mom can get some sleep or providing a gift card so new parents can have something to eat, giving a little means the world. Now get ready to make a lasting impression as you celebrate a new life with creativity and love!
